Who we are

About us
Our charity has been providing support for children in Liberia since 2006. We are currently funding 100 children in a school in Grand Cess, Liberia and 5 students in college in Pleebo or Harper. The founder members of our charity are part of the Catholic community of High Wycombe and its surrounding area. Our charity was founded after the year-long ministry of an African missionary Priest, Fr Sam (from the Missionary Society of St Paul) who had previously been a missionary priest in Liberia, Africa.
We were all touched by the stories of struggle and poverty told to us by an African Missionary Priest, Father Sam Ofia (from the Missionary Society of St Paul), during his year long ministry in St Augustine’s parish, High Wycombe. Father Sam had previously been a missionary priest in Liberia, West Africa.
In 2006 the local churches associated with St. Augustine’s were moved to make a difference, no matter how small it may seem when considering all the problems associated with Africa, and sent a container full of goods donated by the parishes to help Father Sam’s previous parishioners in Grand Cess, Liberia.
Clive visited West Africa in late 2006, with Father Sam, and was particularly struck with the needs of the children in Grand Cess, many of them having to work each day to help the family survive. He returned with the idea that the 100 empty local school places should be filled and Help a Child Africa was born.
Since then, each year, Help a Child Africa has provided the funds for 100 children or more to attend St. Patrick’s school in Grand Cess and, in addition, provide on-going funds for two young people each year to attend college in Pleebo or Harper. From 2010-2017 Help a Child Africa also supported 4 children with additional needs in the capital of Liberia, Monrovia.
